About moe
Hi, my name is Moselle (Moe)!
I am a Los Angeles-based ceramic artist with over a decade of clay under my fingernails. My work is shaped by my roots in the Bay Area, where the collision of city life and nature defined my surroundings. I’ve always been drawn to the way rigid architectural lines sit against organic landscapes; this contrast influences not just my color palette, but the very silhouettes of my pieces. This tension between the built environment and the natural world is where my work lives, blending structured, classical forms with the raw, unpredictable textures of the earth.
For over ten years, I’ve been exploring the possibilities of clay, a journey that began in college with more "failed" pieces than finished ones. Today, those early lessons in destruction are the foundation of my practice. I specialize in Greek-inspired vessels with a modern, quirky edge, alongside functional ware designed for the rhythm of daily life. My commitment to sustainability leads me to work primarily with recycled clay, breathing new life into discarded materials. Inspired by the minimalism of Copenhagen and the traditional techniques of Cambodia, my pieces are a celebration of history, individuality, and the beauty found in the unexpected.
Beyond my own studio practice, I am passionate about guiding others through the technical and creative challenges of the wheel. I teach students ranging from their very first beginner throw to mastering advanced technical forms. In my classes, I emphasize that the most important part of the craft isn’t the finished product. Instead, it is the willingness to risk, fail, and start over. Whether I’m working on a custom commission or helping a student navigate a complex cylinder, I believe that the process of creation and destruction is where the most beautiful growth happens.
